                          CROSSHAIR RANCH NEWS!

2026, YEAR OF THE FIRE HORSE!

December 30, 2025 — Blog

This past year has truly been one for the history books, with so much happening in the world around us. That’s exactly why Shayne and I cherish our “horse world” so deeply — it’s our sanctuary, the place that fills our hearts with joy, laughter, and a sense of peace. Our very own Macho (aka HiCaliber Cat) has been a balm for our souls! He teaches us to slow down, live in the moment, and dig deeper to understand all that he is and all he will become.

Our trainer and horseman, Clayton Edsall, has shaped us just as much as he has Macho over these past three years. Our cups have overflowed with generosity, camaraderie, kindness, thrills and chills, ups and downs, new friendships, and the unmistakable presence of God’s plan—all sparked by a horse and a trainer who have helped bring dreams to life that we didn’t even know we had.

In 2025, we celebrated the arrival of Macho’s first foals. Born at Crosshair Ranch in April was the future 2028 futurity champion in reined cow horse—smile—registered as The HiCaliber Kid. Out of CR Shes Uh Secret (Peptoboonsmal x Shes Pretty Smooth), he’s a well-built, tall chestnut with a sharp, aware mind and moves just as gracefully as his papa. We also welcomed a beautiful buckskin colt named HiCaliber Senor, out of Mucho Bueno Senorita—a foundation-bred mare with a legacy of roping, barrel racing, and producing champions. This colt perfectly blends beauty, intelligence, and athleticism. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who bred to Macho and believes in his potential—this junior sire is destined to raise future champions!

According to the Chinese calendar, 2025 was the Year of the Snake—a year of transformation for Macho, too. He transitioned from the snaffle to the two-rein, competing three times and winning twice. He also made his bridle show debut, qualifying for the prestigious Run for the Million in Scottsdale and placing 11th out of over 300 horses! We couldn’t be prouder.

Now, as we step into 2026—the Year of the Fire Horse—Macho is stepping into the bridle full-time. This year, he’ll be competing at all major NRCHA, SRCHA, NSHA, and select AQHA shows in the bridle. Alongside his busy show schedule, Macho will be breeding to some incredible mares throughout 2026! He’s also part of the NCHA Foal Incentive, entering his third year in the NRCHA Stallion Incentive, and remains in the North American Reining Stakes Incentive.

We’re buzzing with excitement about what 2026 holds! The first big event is The Celebration of Champions in Fort Worth, where Macho qualified to compete in the two-rein. We hope to see you there to cheer on Macho and Clayton! It’s never just about the scores or the placements—it’s about the journey and shaping one of the finest reined cow horse stallions sired by High Brow Cat.

After only three years showing, Macho is already ranked 77th in the all-time top 100 NRCHA cow horses. Way to go, Macho and Clayton! No matter what the future brings, we treasure the memories made and look forward to the ones still to come.

Let’s get FIRED UP for 2026!

HiCaliber Cat Amasses $142,000+ in Earnings in Seven Months

Macho and Clayton have had a very busy 2024 show season! In February, the stallion had $7K in lifetime earnings. The team have demonstrated the bond that they share every time they enter the arena. This year Clayton has brought out the amazing talent that the owners and Edsall Performances Horses themselves have believed HiCaliber Cat has been capable since he joined Edsall's barn in October of 2022.

"We are overjoyed, grateful and just trying to digest the magnitude of Clayton's and Macho's accomplishments this show season," said Shayne Morrison, co-owner of Crosshair Ranch.  "There are no words to explain how appreciative we are to Clayton for all he has done to make Macho the very best that he can be," Morrison said.

Macho and Clayton just added a championship buckle to their list of accomplishments in the 2024 show season. The two have shown consistency show after showing this season, and the season isn't over yet! Macho and Clayton will be at the NRCHA Hackamore Horseshow in Fort Worth, taking place during the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity. "We are excited for Macho to show in the Hackamore for the second time this year," Sheila Morrison shared. "We will be cheering on Team Edsall and the three-year-olds that he has prepared for one of the most exciting events of the year," Morrison continued. "As for Macho and Clayton in the Hackamore Horseshow, we pray they have fun in the arena, and NO MATTER THE SCORE -- today, yesterday or tomorrow -- both of them will always be considered CHAMPIONS in our book!"

Doug Williamson said in the "Down the Fence" documentary that anything can happen in cow horse competitions, but there is always the hope that the "stars align". This show season, the stars have done just that for this pair and Crosshair Ranch is humbled, and honored to see their amazing stallion compete among some of the most talented horses in the world. Additionally, they are incredibly honored to entrust their stallion to WORLD's GREATEST HORSEMAN, Clayton Edsall and Team Edsall Performance Horses!
